Positive Human Development & Working Conditions

We pay all our help - part time and full time - above market wages for their level of responsibility and tasks. We want our team to earn a good livable wage. We are able to offer our full-time help medical benefits, too. (We hope to include part-time in the future.) We strive to be a company that does not create any kind of financial drain on our community caused by low wages or no medical benefits, as many farms are economically forced to pay under-market wages and benefits in order to compete. Average farm commodity and food prices are so artificially low (long story...), that it is difficult for most farmers to pay their help a livable wage and offer benefits.

Harmony J.A.C.K. Farms is one of the few, trying to break that pattern of unsustainable worker compensation in agriculture. We have paid for appropriate outside-the-farm training, and we offer as much on-farm training and reading material as we can. WE also do community service, as individuals and as a farm. We strive to make this a great place to work, and to take less than we give to our community.

Local Economy and Community

Over 90% of our income and expenses stay within 60 miles of our farm operation. We buy and sell locally whenever possible. (Like you, we want a strong and independent rural and local economy. We think having strong local economies is one of the best ways to support and keep America strong, independent, and healthy. Think globally and act locally is something we live.) One nice thing about buying locally, is that it gives you a chance to KNOW where your food comes from and who is raising it... and under what conditions. It can be reassuring to know these things!

Sustainable Farm Practices - Good for the Environment

We are building our soils and cleaning our waters, naturally and continually. We use only permanent pastures on our grounds and very low tillage. Our soil biology is building and becoming more balanced. We have proof-positive testing that our soils are returning to their naturally high potential and are producing accordingly. We are improving the soils which raises the quality of all our products that our clients are eating.

We have found ways to reduce our consumption of energy and are trying to find ways to generate our power and equipment fuels in a sustainable fashion as well.
