Here are a few points that might encourage you to order from us, and if so, in what way.

WE sell our animals in halves and wholes for beef, and whole only for goat and turkey. You can buy them live from us, and we can help arrange to have them harvested to your specifications. You can buy the animal from us and work with the local harvester to have it cut and wrapped the way you want. You pay him directly. You can also ask us to have the meat processed at a local USDA meat inspected plant. We can deliver or you pick up the retail-ready, USDA inspected, packaged products. This inspected process costs about eight cents more per pound at today's 2006 prices. For those folks who have never bought half and whole animals, there are some things you should know. You need freezer space, about on cubic foot per 45 pounds of meat products. Our average whole beef is around 240 - 270 pounds of packaged, ready-to-cook meat for beef. Goats around 35 pounds, and turkeys about 12 pounds on average.

Harmony J.A.C.K. Farms sells meat products currently for $__/lb. live weight for beef and goats. Turkey is $__/lb. Live weight is 25¢/lb. more than beef and goat. The equates to an average of about $__/lb. packaged weight (like you might buy in a supermarket) **Please contact us via email or phone for actual current pricing** Harvesting costs add another average of $.50/lb to the packaged price. Our half or whole beef is made up of all the normal beef products (for example, cuts of roasts, steaks and ground beef) and can also include or exclude other edible parts (heart, liver, soup bones, dog bones, as a few examples). Generally speaking you get 1/3 ground beef, 1/3 steaks of all kinds, and 1/3 common roasts. When you look at the average price of these cuts in a supermarket, you will generally find the combined price of those cuts to be over $4.00 per pound, even holding out for "sale" prices. This is the price for commercial, non-Organic, grain-fed meat. If you can find good quality Organic beef, it is usually over $5.50/lb average, so our price is lower for a product of similar quality. We actually have not been able to find beef that is both grass-fed and Organic (like ours is) in any local stores. It is available for around $7.00/lb mail order. Our price compares very well to this comparable (both grass fed and Organic) product. If you can find ways to use all of your harvested animal (i.e., soup out of soup stock/bones, stew meat, etc.) you can really stretch your whole animal purchase to get a lot of food value out of it. This value is not possible from most of your supermarket cuts.

All in all, even with the cost of the freezer figured in, you can eat much healthier food, support our local economy, support sustainable farm practices and our environment, livable wages and benefits to farm workers, healthy soils, crops and animals treated well, eat great quality grass-fed, certified Organic meat, all the while saving money, especially if you consider the possible benefits and cost savings from fewer maladies. Good nutrition is just simply less expensive when you take the "whole-system" approach in analyzing all of the factors that go into poorly raised food that negatively impact the environment, health of humans and animals, the local economy and workers, etc. Eat healthy, sustainably raised foods. It is good for us all.
